What is InvestAmericas and what does it do?

InvestAmericas is an invitation-only platform that aims to create a dynamic space and community for investors to connect and collaborate around due diligence in support of enterprises in Latin America and the Caribbean. The “space” we created is designed to help develop a network of trust, knowledge and learning with the goal of reducing the transaction costs of investing in the region. InvestAmericas, however, does not provide any broker-dealer guidance nor does it offer a platform for carrying out monetary transactions. Please see the Terms of Service for further information.

How does InvestAmericas relate to ConnectAmericas?

ConnectAmericas is the first social network for businesses in the Americas that is dedicated to promoting foreign trade and international investment. It seeks to help SMEs strengthen their businesses by providing them access to communities of clients, suppliers and investors in the region and all over the world, segmented by industry. It also provides useful and straight-forward information about procedures and regulations for international commerce, and about the financing opportunities available in IDB member countries. The ConnectAmericas platform consists of three pillars: Connect, Learn, and Finance. As a strategic initiative of the IIC, a member of the IDB Group, InvestAmericas was designed to complement the Finance pillar of ConnectAmericas. By providing a platform where investors can search for investment opportunities in the region as well as access the tools and connections to specialized service providers needed to facilitate investment analyses, InvestAmericas creates unique opportunities for businesses in the region to realize their plans for growth. InvestAmericas was created with valuable support and insights from ConnectAmericas and the two programs will continue to coordinate closely in the future.

Does it matter under which user group I register?

YES! Pre-registration forms submitted under the incorrect user group classification will not be accepted and may result in significant delays to access the platform. 

I submitted my pre-registration form. Now what?

After submitting your pre-registration form, you must wait for your submission to be reviewed. Please be patient, as this process may take several days. If you meet the criteria for your user group, you will receive an email invitation to join the platform. Log in using the username and password you chose during pre-registration. Then, be sure to complete your profile on the platform in order to be visible to potential investors and other users. Please note: You MUST complete your profile to be visible to investors.

How do I change my password?

Once logged in as a user, click on “Edit my Profile” and then proceed to the “Management team” tab, where you will be able to change your password and edit the rest of your account information.

You can also click on the “Can‘t access your account?” link from the login page to receive an e-mail to reset your password.

Who can see my profile?

Investors: All Investor profiles are private by default. Only your organization’s name and the sectors of interest you specify will appear on the Network section of the platform that is visible to other users. Third Party Service Providers and Enterprise Support Organizations can only see your profile if they send you a request to connect and you accept. Enterprises do not have the option to connect with Investors and can only communicate with Investors if an Investor contacts an Enterprise directly or begins a due diligence process.

Enterprises: Investors on the platform can see your full profile. Other users will only see the Enterprise name and sector affiliation(s), unless the Enterprise accepts another user’s contact request.

Third Party Service Providers: All registered users can see your full profile and may contact you to request services or price quotes. Users will also see your ratings and feedback from other InvestAmericas users, so it’s in your interest to provide great service!

Enterprise Support Organizations: Investors and Enterprises you invite to join the platform can see your full profile. You can also search and connect with other users through the network or accept others’ contact requests to allow them to view your profile.

Why can’t I find the “add contact” button?

Some users do not have privileges to add other users as a contact. Specifically, the ability to contact Investors is limited for non-Investor users. However, Investors may contact other users they wish to connect with. When an Investor indicates interest and willingness to initiate diligence on an opportunity, an automatic contact request is extended from the investor to the Enterprise. Once an Enterprise accepts this request, the channel of communication is open.

What is a “Live Pitch”?

InvestAmericas provides the opportunity to make a “pitch” (similar to an online advertisement) to Investors and on the platform. The “Live Pitch” will show an image and a brief (200 character) text that will appear on a rotating basis below investors’ dashboards. The “Live Pitch” gives added visibility to an Enterprise’s profile and should be crafted to grab the attention of a potential Investor at a glance.

Enterprise and Third Party users have the option to use this tool, located on user dashboards. It allows them both to create content comprising of a short amount of text and a graphic, which is featured briefly on the dashboards of Investors in the network.

How do I upload documents, videos and images, and what type of files can I upload?

Once logged in, click on “Documents” on your dashboard. Then, select “Upload Document” and enter the information requested. The speed of content uploads depends on factors such as file type, file size and internet connectivity.

Some of the video files we accept are .mov, .avi, .mp4, .wmv and .flv. Accepted image files are .jpg, .gif, and .bmp. Accepted document file types are .pdf, .doc, .xls,.ppt,.docx, .xlsx and .pptx.

Who created InvestAmericas and why?

InvestAmericas was created by the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) as part of a strategic initiative to facilitate interaction between investors, enterprises and other parties and lower the due diligence and transaction costs associated with investing. The goal is to further the IIC’s mission to promote the economic development of its regional developing member countries by encouraging the establishment, expansion and modernization of private enterprises, preferably those that are small and medium-scale.

Who can join InvestAmericas?

Investors: InvestAmericas allows Investors to search for potential investment opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean. Centralizing information related to these opportunities and channeling communications through the platform reduces information asymmetries and corresponding transaction costs. InvestAmericas also makes the due diligence process easier by providing customizable templates and connecting Investors with specialized Third Party Service Providers. Investors can even connect with one another to explore co-financing opportunities where due diligence costs and investment risks are shared. U.S.-based Investors must be duly accredited to join the platform.

Enterprises: Only those businesses in need of and ready to receive private financing should join InvestAmericas. Enterprises must be formally registered and domiciled in one of the IIC´s regional member countries. InvestAmericas allows these Enterprises to pitch themselves to investors throughout the region and the world.

Third-party Service Providers: These users are other businesses specializing in investment services such as legal counsel, market research, financial analysis, auditing, and translation, among others. By joining InvestAmericas, Service Providers can be found by Investors who request specific services to facilitate due diligence processes or by Enterprises in need of experts to help them improve operations, productivity or efficiency. Service Providers do not seek financing through the platform.

Enterprise Support Organizations: ESOs are organizations such as chambers of commerce, investment promotion authorities, and business incubators or accelerators that can invite their members to register on InvestAmericas. By registering with InvestAmericas, ESOs are able to promote the development of their members and connect with key stakeholders in the investment community.

How do I know which user group is mine?

Be sure to read the descriptions of each user group carefully before submitting the pre registration form. Each Register button will bring you to a unique pre-registration form corresponding to each user group. If after reading these descriptions you are still unsure which user group you should register as, please contact info@investamericas.com.

I am having trouble logging in. What should I do?

First, double check the accuracy of your password. Passwords are case sensitive, must have a minimum of 8 characters and can include letters, numbers and symbols.

You can also click on the “Can’t access your account?” link from the login page to receive an e-mail to reset your password. Please note that it may take a few minutes for this email to arrive in your inbox. Be sure to check your spam folder if it does not arrive in your inbox. What kind of information protection does InvestAmericas provide?

Information provided on your profile may be visible to other users on the platform, including the description of your business plan, financial information or other sensitive information you choose to provide (see the definition of Locked Information in the Terms of Service). Registered Investors can see this information at all times. In addition, when you accept another user’s contact request, information posted in your profile will become visible to the new contact. We cannot, however, require users who see your Locked Information to agree not to distribute that information, and we are not responsible for the actions of any user with respect to Locked Information. We also do not and cannot warrant or guarantee that there will never be a software bug or a hacker attack that will allow unauthorized viewing of material, including your Locked Information.

How do I edit my profile?

Once logged in, click the “edit my profile” link at the top right-hand side of your profile, above your logo. Select the tabs on the left-hand side to edit any information found there. When you are finished with your edits, click “Save” at the bottom of the page.

How can I send messages to other users?

InvestAmericas has a built-in message center allowing you to keep all of your correspondence in one place within the system. Once you are connected with another user (i.e. you have accepted a contact request from another user or another user has accepted your contact request), you can navigate to your message center from the dashboard where you can send, receive and manage communications with your contacts. The message center allows users to communicate with individual contacts or with groups of multiple contacts.

If I start a due diligence process, am I locked into any specific commitment?

No. InvestAmericas is designed to foster collaboration and information sharing. While all user should fully understand the implications of their actions on the platform, an Investor who signals interest in an Enterprise has no further obligation to that Enterprise or any other party, and interest may be cancelled at any time. . The IIC takes no responsibility for agreements or promises made at any level of the due diligence / investment appraisal process. Please see the Terms of Service for more information.

I don’t see anything on my dashboard, is something wrong?

When you first register on the platform, you won’t see anything in the dashboard area. Investors will see overviews of specific Enterprise investment information on the dashboard once they show interest in an Enterprise. Enterprises will see the status of a due diligence process (once an Investor has shown interest) and any pending questions that have been assigned to them by interested Investors. Third Party Service Providers will see a summary of “Bids” (requests for pricing for specific services) from other users. Enterprise Support Organizations will see a summary of statistics related to the Enterprises they have helped bring to the platform.
